Hi makeup lovers,
I hope everyone is preparing for the promises they made, or will be making to themselves this year, and really sticking to them. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go back and read my last post. I've been thinking about it a lot lately actually. I would say I've been really committed to the gym so far, and focusing my efforts on really pushing myself physically. It's such a release to give your all at the gym, and then leave all your negative feelings behind. It's this week in particular though, that I feel like the gym isn't doing it for me; mentally at least. I feel the physical release but the mental part is lacking some. I keep bottling things up just to then throw them up later; like diarrhea of the mouth. Once I get upset about something it just explodes into a tsunami of regret. I wish I could take back the things I say in those moments, but most of the time it's just a little too late. Hey, at least I'm admitting when I'm wrong and trying to do better; that's all anyone can ask for.
When you feel unbalanced you need to reevaluate why that is.
That's where makeup comes into play for me.
I know what you're thinking, "How is makeup helping you from beating the ever living shit out of everyone?". Well it does. It's a spiritual experience for me and I've realized over the past couple of months that I haven't been putting makeup on the way I usually do. I haven't been making the effort to just be in that frame of mind. I've been so caught up lately in my to-do list sometimes I forget to sit down, reflect, and really be in the moment - some self care lovin'.
Nothing is better therapy to me than sitting at my desk with all my colorful brushes laid out, eyeshadows, lipsticks, eyebrow products, skin products, the list goes on... listening to the same songs I've heard 6745248 times, ready to create and just make myself, me. I haven't been me, not that makeup makes a person, but I love it. I stopped doing something I love because I thought it didn't matter that much, but it does. I think we tend to put things we love doing on the back burner because they're not seen as a priory when they should be.
Anything that you love to do please start making that a priority in your life. It's so important to not just hustle, and work, and improve yourself in school, and your career, etc but also your mental health. Things that make you tick and bring you inspiration and creativity those are the things that will make you feel alive. You can't live your whole life on a hamster wheel, sometimes you need to just hit pause and say, "This day is for me" or "This moment is mine" and really make it about YOU.
For me, when I say, "I have to do my makeup" it's not because I don't like the way I look. It's a moment in time to really be honest with myself, and have that one on one time to think and clear my mind completely. It's like an adult timeout so that I can recharge my batteries. I can create and be bold, or be subtle and feel comfy with the littlest amount I apply to my face. It's about the process of putting makeup on and not what I look like at all, that's honestly just a bonus.
This past week has been pretty crazy for me while I prepare for my LAST spring semester. Ya girl is not book smart by any means, but I work my butt off to get the grades I do. I find myself working crazy hours to make up for the fact I'm an actual idiot, kidding, but not really. Not only do I work like a crazy women, but I miss what it means to truly care about my appearance. To truly care about the things that I love to do for myself. To truly care about what makes me feel fully myself. So I've decided my first post about makeup will be pretty basic and dedicated to all things foundation, here's my top 5.
Let's start embracing the things we love to do, and actually do them!
Enjoy,
xoxo

Top 5 Foundations:
Laura Mercier - Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear
This shit is AMAZING - I snagged some at Marshalls this month for $12.99 while I was out with one of my girlfriends, and it's originally $48... I know, a steal. It lasts ALL day, full coverage, natural-ish/matte finish, and completely lightweight. I didn't even feel like I had makeup on after working a 12-hour day. If you can find it at Tj-Maxx or Marshalls, get it. ASAP.
Too Faced - Born This Way
My original baby, my ride or die. - anytime I repurchase this foundation I buy multiples, always. Just like the Laura Mercier, it's a good coverage foundation - but this is closer to a medium to full coverage. Only problem with this is if you use too much you WILL 110% be looking caked the f*ck up. So start with one pump, and then add more; build it up slowly. I have a lot of freckles so after I put it on my entire face I'll add just a bit more to my cheeks so I can get the FULL coverage I desire. I tend to wear this when I want to look my absolute best or when I'm going somewhere special.
L'Oréal - Infallible Pro-Glow
For all my natural, glow queens - this ones for you. If you want medium coverage, natural looking, and something light - this is everything. It doesn't last as long since its a more natural/glow foundation but if I want something quick and easy it makes me look like my skin, but better. I like seeing my freckles poke through sometimes and this helps balance the look of my face. I buy this in bulk when it's on sale because I go through it like water and it's inexpensive.
L'Oréal - Infallible Fresh Wear 24HR
This is the foundation I always have on hand when I will run out of my Born This Way, or don't want to waste my more expensive products on an everyday look. I still want to have long lasting, full coverage some days, and this is perfect for that. This makeup will last during a long day at work, but it's not as full coverage as my Born This Way. I would say it's between a medium to full coverage, but you will have to put at least two layers to get the desired look.
Covergirl - Vitalist Healthy Elixir
This foundation is amazing if you want to look healthy and youthful. Anytime I don't feel my best, I feel under the weather, or I want something quick to put on - I find that this evens out my skin and gives me a nice satin finish. It does have SPF in it so with any foundation with SPF sometimes the color is a little bit off. Which can then go just a bit orange. In this case pick a foundation by your undertone not just by your "shade" because you can always add a bit of a lighter foundation if it's too dark for you. With this being so inexpensive I would just be safe and get two different shades to create your perfect shade!
*Tip: When you're purchasing any of these products check out Ulta because they give you points, coupons, and on drugstore products they frequently have sales, and buy one get one half off!
